François JamesScientific deputy director
François James was born in Paris. He studied mathematics at Université Pierre et Marie Curie, then at the École Polytechnique, where he defended a PhD thesis under the supervision of Pierre-Arnaud Raviart. François James is Professor at the University of Orleans. He is specialized in the study of nonlinear conservation laws, both in their theoretical aspects and in their interactions with different fields: fluid mechanics, hydrology, volcanology, thermodynamics...
He was an elected member of the Comité national des universités from 2016 to 2019, and has also regularly participated in research evaluation bodies, in particular the HCERES. From 2013 to 2021, he was thematic coordinator for Mathematical and Digital Sciences at the Direction des Grands Programmes d'Investissement de l'État (DGPIE) of the ANR, in charge of monitoring and supporting Labex and Equipex projects throughout France.
He is appointed Deputy Scientific Director at the Insmi from September 1, 2021, in charge of the coordination of regional poles.
